Our most recent move was to western Massachusetts this past July. Even before we moved I started looking for hiking trails and camp sites to take advantage of. I was very excited to be living in the mountains again and wanted to take full advantage of all the outdoor activities with my family. Lucky for me there are a lot of trails and outdoor activities in this area. We have tried quite a few of them and we definitely have our favorites.
But recently I have been getting a little board and wanting to find some new trails. I had looked at all the "normal" web sites (state parks, national forests and parks, etc.) plus talked to locals so I wasn't sure if there was anything else out there. I had the thought to look at our town's website and decided to give it a shot. I hit the jackpot, my kind of jack pot that is. I already knew about the town parks but what I didn't know was that there is also a non-profit rural lands organization that purchases land and makes it available to the public. Turns out one of the trails is just around the corner from our house. It is a short trail and just perfect for days when we don't have a ton of time to travel but want to get outdoors anyway. Yesterday was one of those days so we took advantage.
Where do you look for information on trails and outdoor spaces in your area? I can always use more ideas.
